2022 Senior Salute: Lily Kerr-Jung

Theatre Major Shares Her Wittenberg Experience

Lily Kerr-Jung, Class of 2022

Major: Theatre
Minor: Business
Hometown and State: Cleveland, Ohio
Why Wittenberg: 鈥淚 chose Wittenberg because it felt like home almost immediately. The people I met when I visited were warm, friendly, and welcoming. When I visited the theatre department, I felt like my voice would really be heard, and I knew I would be able to do everything I wanted to do here, and that has been true!鈥

1. My Sewing Machine: I have worked in the Costume Shop all four years that I鈥檝e been at Witt, and it鈥檚 been one of the best experiences of my life. I鈥檝e been able to design costumes for shows like Good Kids, Spring Awakening, The Tempest, and Peter Pan.

2. Lab Sweatshirt: I had the honor this year of being the first student artistic director of The Wittenberg Lab Theatre. I鈥檝e learned so much about how to run a theatre, and it鈥檚 brought me a step closer to my ultimate goal. I was also able to direct and design one of my favorite shows, Riot Grrrl Saves the World, out in Commencement Hollow with the Lab.

3. Play Script: I came here to do theatre, but I never expected to have such a deeply fulfilling experience. Along with the opportunities I鈥檝e already talked about, I鈥檝e gotten the chance to perform in many productions, and each one has been such a valuable and beautiful experience. Doing theatre here hasn鈥檛 just been a wonderful academic experience, it has also brought me to my best friends.

4. Gonzo Plush: This is kind of a weird one, but I love the Muppets and Gonzo especially, and when things get hard or frustrating, I always turn to them. Gonzo reminds me to be weird and wonderful, and that the right people will be there and love me no matter what. It also reminds me of some of the most fun experiences of my college career at Gonzo theatre nights.

5. Cool Shoe: Expressing myself through my clothes is really important to me, and I experiment a lot with fashion and how I present myself, from super edgy, to retro, to business casual. I also thrift almost all of my clothes, or I buy from small businesses, and I love having unique and individual clothing that is also more sustainable!

6. Alpha Delta Pi Letters: Before I got to college, I really didn鈥檛 think of myself as a sorority girl, but I鈥檓 so glad I joined Alpha Delta Pi. The women in ADPi are so driven, intelligent, kind, and inspiring, and I鈥檓 so glad to have such a cool community of women in my life.

7. Orange Butterfly: The orange butterfly is a symbol of ADHD. Having ADHD is a big part of my life, and it comes with a lot of gifts and challenges. Learning to not just accept, but love and celebrate my neurodiversity has allowed me to love and celebrate all the kinds of brains and bodies that the world is full of. Disability and neurodiversity advocacy is one of the most important things to me, and I鈥檝e done my best during my time here to create a more welcoming and loving environment for everyone. My senior comp was designing a production of Peter Pan that was actively welcoming to those with disabilities and neurodivergences, and I can鈥檛 wait to continue that work out in the 鈥渞eal world.鈥
