Springfield, Ohio 鈥 It鈥檚 time to turn the winter blues into spring fever by engaging in a little exercise for a good cause.
Members of Alpha Phi Omega, a new service fraternity on campus, are organizing a Relay For Life at 麻豆传媒团队 from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 20.
鈥淩elay For Life used to be on campus through Colleges Against Cancer; however, they have not been able to put on an event the past few years,鈥 said fraternity Vice President Sabrina Davis, a class of 2018 biochemistry and molecular biology major from Upper Arlington, Ohio.
鈥淲e are excited to bring it back to campus and hope the Wittenberg community enjoys the event, as well.鈥
The event is scheduled to take place at the Earl F. Morris Track, but in case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the Gymnasium inside of the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Center (HPERC).
Scheduled performances include Just Eve, the Wittmen Crew and Pocket Lint. There will also be an opening and a closing ceremony along with a luminaria event. Fifteen teams and 67 participants registered for the event have already raised $4,148 toward a goal of $5,000.
鈥淚鈥檓 hoping to have a turnout of 150 people or more at the event,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great cause, and because the event is new to many people on campus, I鈥檓 hoping this year Alpha Phi Omega will be able to show the Wittenberg community what it is all about. People are free to participate in activities, hang out with their teams, and walk the track in support. We also encourage teams to bring on-site fundraisers to help raise money for their teams. Our theme is Superheroes, so teams are also encouraged to do something targeted toward the theme.鈥
The Wittenberg Relay For Life is known as a feeder event for Clark County鈥檚 Relay For Life that takes place Friday, June 10, at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
鈥淭he money we raise is tied to their event, but we are a separate event,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淏ecause that event falls into summer break for Wittenberg students, many choose not to participate in Clark County鈥檚 event. We are hoping that these people will still be able to participate with the Relay For Life at 麻豆传媒团队. We highly encourage Wittenberg students or community members who will be in the area over the summer to attend the Clark County Relay For Life as well. Right now we have one local team participating in our event, and we invite anyone in the community who would like to participate to sign up.鈥
A limited number of T-shirts are available through Alpha Phi Omega for $5. Anyone who raises $100 will receive an official Relay For Life T-shirt.
